Sharia (often referred to as Sharia law) is the religious law and moral guidance of Islam, derived primarily from the Qur'an (the holy book of Islam) and the Hadith / Sunnah (the sayings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad).

The Arabic word sharīʿah literally means "a path leading to the watering place", representing a divinely inspired path for how Muslims should live, worship, and interact with others.
