Biophotons are ultra-weak, non-thermal light particles (in the UV/visible range) spontaneously emitted by most living systems as a byproduct of metabolic chemical reactions, particularly involving reactive oxygen species in mitochondria. These emissions, also known as ultra-weak photon emissions (UPE), are thought to facilitate cellular communication, DNA regulation, and indicate metabolic health.
