Chitragupta is a Hindu deity, the meticulous accountant who maintains a record of every human's good and bad deeds, or karma. Created from the mind and body of Lord Brahma at the request of Yama, the god of death, to assist him in judging souls, Chitragupta is depicted holding a pen and paper to record actions. His role is to ensure that individuals receive the appropriate reward or punishment for their deeds in the afterlife, and he is particularly revered by the Kayastha community, who are traditionally scribes and administrators.
