The Kardashev scale is a method for measuring a civilization's level of technological advancement, specifically based on the amount of energy it can harness and utilize. Proposed by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev in 1964, the scale categorizes civilizations into types, with Type I representing a civilization capable of harnessing all of a planet's energy, Type II capable of harnessing all of a star's energy, and Type III capable of harnessing all of a galaxy's energy.
