Syntax
Hormesis is a biological phenomenon where a low dose of a stressor (like exercise, mild toxins, or calorie restriction) triggers a beneficial, adaptive response, leading to improved health, resilience, and longevity, whereas a high dose of the same stressor would be harmful or toxic. It's a U-shaped or J-shaped dose-response curve, showing stimulation at low levels and inhibition or toxicity at high levels, essentially meaning "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" in a controlled way.
