An Idea for The Gmail “New Label” Interface

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

Dear Gmail

I have created lot of labels and one of them is xyz

Am looking at a mail and I want to label it xyz

There are 2 situations: Either
1) I do not remember that I created xyz or
2) Am lazy to scroll down the list of labels to look for xyz

Due to the above reasons, I click on “new label”

The pop-up is “Please enter a new label name”

I enter “xyz”

The message is “The label name you have chosen already exists. Please try another name:”

Oops. Why can’t Gmail accept this label and say

“Dear Kishore. You were lazy to select the label that already existed. I assigned the existing label. Have a nice day. Wish you a lazy day:-)”

some heroes : ..I’m not claiming this is a list of the n most admirable people. Who could make such a list, even if they wanted to?..

Clarification needed !

Update on 2008 july 13 – sun – “When I thought about what it meant to call someone a hero, it meant I’d decide what to do by asking what they’d do in the same situation. That’s a stricter standard than admiration.” – Created a link category “Heroes”

why not multiple labels instead of one category

LiquidPlanner is slow but looks promising

It would have been better to let me assign multiple labels/tags to a task instead of 1 category !

Also, can users be interested in tasks apart from being assigned ?

Michael Arrington in 2,433 Unread Emails Is An Opportunity For An Entrepreneur

The long term answer is that someone needs to create a new technology that allows us to enjoy our life but not miss important messages.

Dear Gmail – Consider the following solution
user1 sends 10 emails to user2
email3 is most important followed by email5 followed by email2
( these emails are basically messages/tasks for user2 ! )
now let user1 sequence/sort messages sent to user1 and
let user2 see this sequence too

Now user2 will never miss the important messages !
