MiniMirosoft in the Web Trend Map 2007

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

The Web Trend Map 2007 is very well architected :-)
But there seems to be a typo in all versions of the map: MiniMirosoft

Do they mean Mini-Microsoft ?

Could not post comment on that page !

Are all the words in the map listed in The 50 loudest websites in 2006 and what made them successful ?

a weighted-average technorati most favorited blogs

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Technorati lets users maintain favorite blogs and publishes Technorati Most Favorited Blogs

What would happen to this list if a weighted average logic would be used instead?

The result would be very interesting!

Let me order the favorite list similar to in Namaste Netizen: inspiring + people

P1 favorites blogs a, b, c, d and P2: c,d and P3: a,d - Even though d is favorited 3 times, d is the last on the 3 lists and that should mean something in ranking !

I would expect a to be on the top of the list..

Should not be difficult!

mm. What is the difference between a “feature suggestion” and an “enhancement request” ?

Update: mm. The term “weighted-average” is probably not the right term. What would be the correct name ?

Update: Maybe a variation of Google Pagerank should be used

Podcast File Naming Convention

Dear Podcasters, please read Podcast Publishing: A Filename for Your Podcast

My suggestion would be _initials_-yyyy-mm-dd-_desc_.mp3

_desc_ could be title + author or title

remember the milk and which looks right

Came across remember the milk - blog - Add your tasks to Google Calendar

Went to remember the milk - signup

This page contains “Which Looks Right 1) 14/02/06 2) 02/14/06

Why not a third option 3) 14/feb/06

This looks right to me :-)

Page Titles

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Attn Website owners:

understand jakob nielsen’s top ten mistakes in web design esp. no. 6 “Page Titles With Low Search Engine Visibility”

Am referring more because of “Page titles are also used as the default entry in the Favorites when users bookmark a site.” and less for the “low search engine visibility”

Eg: 1) Steve Pavlina’s permalinks - Steve Pavlina’s Blog: Dealing With Close-Mindedness - The title is “Dealing With Close-Mindedness” - Better would be “Steve Pavlina’s Blog: Dealing With Close-Mindedness”

2) Google for Educators: Global Warming Student Speakout - Top 50 Ideas. The title is “Google for Educators”. Better would be “Google for Educators: Global Warming Student Speakout - Top 50 Ideas” - Here I think it is an oversight ! (via Google Blog: Global Warming Speakout

3) Life at Atlassian - The current title is “Atlassian Software Systems” ! (via the rebelutionary blog: Life at Atlassian)

Attn Website owners - Understand Permalinks

Wikipedia: Permalink : ..A permalink is a URL that points to a specific blogging entry even after the entry has passed from the front page into the blog archives. Because a permalink remains unchanged indefinitely, its use avoids link rot..

The wikipedia explanation should be changed to include any website’s content and not just “blogging entry”

E.g. Singapore Holistic Living Newsletter - content1.htm will point to a different page next month ! Same issue with The Simple Living Network Newsletter
