The most interesting people on earth

Monday, December 25th, 2006

TED (Technology Entertainment Design) principles are “the same inspired format, the same breadth of content, the same commitment to seek out the most interesting people on earth and let them communicate what they are passionate about, untainted by corporate influence.”

“Each year, TED hosts some of the world’s most fascinating people: Trusted voices and convention-breaking mavericks, icons and geniuses. The talks they deliver have had had such a great impact, we thought they deserved a wider audience. So now – with our sponsor BMW and production partner WNYC/New York Public Radio we’re sharing some of the most remarkable TED talks with the world at large. Each week, we’ll release a new talk, in audio and video, to download or watch online. For best effect, plan to listen to at least three, start to finish. They have a cumulative effect…”

Thank you BMW for TEDTalks

I would add : listen to something every day !

Start with – Why do people succeed? Richard St. John compacts seven years of research into an unmissable 3-minute slideshow on the real secrets of success

You must move on

Monday, December 25th, 2006

I am very happy to have come across David Maister’s podcasts at this time of the year – a right time to set future directions for another year and more to come..

The first one is It’s Not How Good You Are, But How Much You Want It

Are you 100% sure if your current career is _the_ one for you? Do listen to the entire podcast !

..

  1. Is it in fact as exiting as I thought it would be ?
  2. Is there a market for this? Will anyone pay me to do it?
  3. Can I make a contribution that others are not yet making? Can I be something other than a “me too” player?

All three must be present to succeed

The Nintendo DS Lite Games You Wish I Played

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

Got seriously interested about the DS Lite after a mention @ Uncle Mark 2007 Gift Guide & Almanac and Cool Tool: Electroplankton

KK: the designer is Toshio Iwai not Toshi Iwai

If you have difficulty deciding the right games to choose, look @ ign.com’s DS Best of 2006. GameRankings.com is very helpful too

Wikipedia Nintendo DS Lite has lots of information as usual !

etc: Nintendo DS Lite First Look

The search @ Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has been implemented very well

Dear Amazon.com – Freedback – Let me view top sellers / recommendations by the ESRB rating. When I click on ESRB on a product page (e.g., Electroplankton), I expect to be taken to such a page not an explanation of the ratings !

Am missing this good list of recommendations where the author recommends not nintendogs and something else because the something else made much better use of the game system – Hilfe – Update: Thanks to Google Search History. Found it ! modojo.com: DS Lite Buyer’s Guide

Lastly, am planning to start with Brain Age and Electroplankton.

Respond !

Podcast File Naming Convention

Dear Podcasters, please read Podcast Publishing: A Filename for Your Podcast

My suggestion would be _initials_-yyyy-mm-dd-_desc_.mp3

_desc_ could be title + author or title

howto googlify any company or situation

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Steve Yegge: I take it all back! Send me your money! : ..And if you’re not at Google, which many of you brilliant engineers out there are not, you still know what Googley means! It’s the opposite of “sucky”. If your organization or team or little cubicle cul-de-sac is un-Googley, then fix it! Googliness needn’t be constrained to Google, however prevalent it might be there today..

Lawyers, Bankers and a common error in English

Friday, December 15th, 2006

Even though Rules of Grammar will not save you at the time of your death (Bhaja Govindam) be informed that ‘Four’ loses its U when it changes to ‘forty’ and donot write a cheque with Fourty (and correct it to Forty and just initial the change even though Lawyer said enough while the bank will reject it expecting a full signature for any amendments)

You have been warned !
