Page Titles

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Attn Website owners:

understand jakob nielsen’s top ten mistakes in web design esp. no. 6 “Page Titles With Low Search Engine Visibility”

Am referring more because of “Page titles are also used as the default entry in the Favorites when users bookmark a site.” and less for the “low search engine visibility”

Eg: 1) Steve Pavlina’s permalinks – Steve Pavlina’s Blog: Dealing With Close-Mindedness – The title is “Dealing With Close-Mindedness” – Better would be “Steve Pavlina’s Blog: Dealing With Close-Mindedness”

2) Google for Educators: Global Warming Student Speakout – Top 50 Ideas. The title is “Google for Educators”. Better would be “Google for Educators: Global Warming Student Speakout – Top 50 Ideas” – Here I think it is an oversight ! (via Google Blog: Global Warming Speakout

3) Life at Atlassian – The current title is “Atlassian Software Systems” ! (via the rebelutionary blog: Life at Atlassian)

Attn Website owners – Understand Permalinks

Wikipedia: Permalink : ..A permalink is a URL that points to a specific blogging entry even after the entry has passed from the front page into the blog archives. Because a permalink remains unchanged indefinitely, its use avoids link rot..

The wikipedia explanation should be changed to include any website’s content and not just “blogging entry”

E.g. Singapore Holistic Living Newsletter – content1.htm will point to a different page next month ! Same issue with The Simple Living Network Newsletter

Alce Nero Cooperativa

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

alce nero had a booth at the recently held 9th Singapore Holistic Living Festival

The Alce Nero Cooperativa’s inglese pages are not found (Impossibile trovare la pagina) and are in the Google cache. So here is some details

Early 1970s: Gino Girolomoni, then the young mayor of Isola del Piano, fostered some plans to revitalise the area’s ancient rural traditions.

These plans included training in organic agriculture and conferences which drew experts, intellectuals and journalists from all over Italy. From the beginning well-known people such as Guido Ceronetti, Sergio Quinzio, the writers Paolo Volponi and Fabio Tombari were involved in the process. Alce Nero Cooperativa – established on 13th July 1977 and thus one of the earliest examples of organic farming in Italy – developed from this social and cultural background.

Alce Nero Cooperativa’s aim was to provide a solution to the problems involved with massive migrations from the country-side. If our ancestors lived for centuries in the remotest parts of our mountainous and hilly areas, without any roads, tap water, electricity, telephone lines and money, why is it so hard for us – with all the above things and more – to devise a type of economy which would enable us to live in those two-thirds of the land which the prevailing Italian mentality considers merely as week-end or holiday resorts?
Starting from this assumption, Alce Nero Cooperativa purchased a patch of land which had not been used for decades, restored an ancient monastery, built a stable, mill and pasta factory.

for using Folksomoney :-)

Wikipedia: Thanksgiving : ..Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is an annual one-day holiday to give thanks (traditionally to a God), for the things one has at the close of the harvest season. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, and in Canada it is celebrated on the second Monday in October. In the United Kingdom, Thanksgiving is another name for the Harvest festival,..

Looks equivalent to the Indian Pongal

Googled for Thanks and the first hit was unexpected. DIY. For me, it was thanks.html @ www.bushflash.com

Folksomoney

Dave Winer wrote on 20th November ..Another one that I’d invest in, in an instant: An easy accounting system for small business or home users. I want to be able to pay bills (already can do this at my bank), and categorize the expenses, and have the same data available through the web, to my accountant. Same with income. When I describe this, people say “Quicken.” But geez come on, it’s not web based and it’s not easy. I want to be able to enter an expense no matter where I am. That’s the secret for detail-averse people like myself, make it painless..

I have had the same idea for some time “managing money flows with tags”

Since there are others who _need_ the same..
